Schule Brno

The technical school on Sokolská Street was founded in 1885. It was the first Czech technical school in Moravia and Silesia. The building that stands there today is already the third school building and the second to have been built specifically for the school. The initial design was drawn up by the architects Vilém Berger and Karel Welzl (both of whom were teaching at the school at the time) in collaboration with the headmaster, Vojtěch Dvořák. The new building was completed remarkably quickly: construction began on 1 May 1900 and was finished in July 1901 – that is, after just 14 months.
