Farmhouse in Bavaria

Lüftlmalerei is a traditional art form that has adorned facades in the Alpine region for centuries. Its roots go back to the 18th century, when ornately painted facades became a trademark of Bavarian and Tyrolean villages. The detailed motifs tell stories from the lives of the inhabitants, religious scenes or historical events. While this traditional art form has been increasingly forgotten in modern construction, it is experiencing a renaissance thanks to Bernhard Rieger, as the Wallgau artist reinterprets Lüftlmalerei and gives it a modern dimension as "Alpine street art".
